We know topping a cake with different and attractive ingredients is a little difficult yet there are plenty of attractive cake topping made at home such as candied fruit slices.Candied fruit slices are fruit slices that have been preserved through a process called candying Candying involves cooking fruit slices in a sugar syrup until the fruit becomes translucent and impregnated with the sugar, creating a sweet and chewy treat. The candying process helps to preserve the fruit and gives it a shiny appearance.
There are particular choices as citrus fruits are best suitable for the process such as oranges, lemons, limes, pear , apple etc
Wash the fruit thoroughly, especially if you’re using citrus fruits.Slice the fruit into thin, even slices. You can use a sharp knife or a mandoline for this.combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.Add the fruit slices to the sugar syrup. Simmer over low to medium heat for about 45 minutes to 1 hour or until the fruit slices become translucent and the syrup thickens.Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning. You want the syrup to coat the fruit nicely.It is optional to add food color to make it attractive. Once the fruit slices are translucent and the syrup has thickened, remove the pan from heat.Using a slotted spoon, transfer the candied fruit slices to a wire rack or parchment paper to cool. Let them dry completely.You can roll the candied fruit slices in additional sugar for extra sweetness.Once completely cooled and dried, store the candied fruit slices in an airtight container.
